The community social services sector in Aotearoa New Zealand has never had a clear, trusted picture of our workforce. We don’t have the data we need to understand who makes up our workforce, where they are located, who employs them, their roles, employment conditions and the challenges they face.
Te Pai Ora SSPA has begun a sector-led research programme to change that. We are setting up a co-governed Social Services Workshop Research Programme to build a robust, reliable evidence base about our workforce. At the heart of this work is the development of an ambitious, informative, multi-year workforce survey. The data collected will be used to help with future planning, funding and policy decisions.
The research programme is being developed in collaboration with iwi, sector partners and major employers throughout Aotearoa. The programme is part of our commitment to building sector workforce capability.
As first steps, we have convened a steering group to oversee and advise our programme and we are working on a scoping document.
