SSPA members – share your views on the draft framework for debt to government at our upcoming SSPA and IRD consultation zui.
Evidence shows that debt to government is a stress factor affecting many families and whānau, and the government is considering how this can be addressed to alleviate hardship. This zui is a chance to share your views on this kaupapa which is relevant to your mahi with families and whānau. This work is being led by officials from Inland Revenue, supported by the Ministry of Social Development, the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, the Ministry of Justice and the Social Wellbeing Agency.
The consultation document
proposes some guiding principles for government agencies managing debt, discusses how some kinds of debt might be treated differently from others, and advises how to take hardship into account. The goal of this work is to encourage a fairer and more consistent approach, and to reduce hardship for families and individuals.
We invite all SSPA members to attend an online zui to discuss the draft framework and to share your views to help inform this work. SSPA is co-hosting this zui together with Inland Revenue. Please register to attend by clicking the button below.
