Introduction to using AI tools for social service organisations

This two-hour introductory workshop will give you the confidence and practical skills to use artificial intelligence (AI) tools in your day-to-day mahi.

Te Pai Ora SSPA is excited to bring back this popular workshop alongside our friends, capacity builders LEAD (Centre for Not for Profit Governance and Leadership).

Facilitated by AI training specialists Mosaic Partners, the workshop offers an engaging, interactive and practical introduction, without being overly technical.

The workshop explores tools (like ChatGPT and MS Copilot, and Claude), and new features from the world of AI. It’s suitable for people who have no or little experience with AI tools and want to learn the basics, through to those who use these already and want to develop their skills.

Participant feedback from past AI tools sessions have been incorporated to ensure the interactive activities and scenarios, are tailored to the needs of our members and are relevant to the social service sector. The content will cover areas specific to your mahi and roles that would be most useful to learn about.

Participants will:

  • explore responsible and secure AI use, with a focus on privacy, bias and organisation safeguards
  • gain confidence engaging with ChatGPT, Copilot and Claude and including tasks such as: distilling long emails, transcripts or reports into clear insights; analysing data for insights; generating images for marketing and communications; developing formulas within Excel
  • apply a practical prompting toolkit to cut admin time each week

During the two-hour workshop will cover:

Foundations: What generative AI is, where it gets things right (and wrong), core concepts, and guardrails
Prompt Craft:
Techniques for structured prompting, iterating, and controlling tone and accuracy
Interactive Tasks:
Real workplace scenarios with guided challenges and shared learning
Level Up
: A look at working with files and more advanced uses.

LEAD will also be able to offer its perspective of the relevant considerations of AI for the community not-for-profit sector more widely.

“Couldn't have been more comprehensive! While being balanced and completely digestible. I found both presenters really excellent communicators. 10/10” - Feedback from Using ChatGPT in Social Service Organisations 2024 participant

We will be offering a follow-up webinar, which will build on this workshop in the new year. This will be entitled 'Using AI tools in social service organisations: safety and ethics". Keep an eye out for dates.
