Following a joint presentation at Whakamanawa 2024, members of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Social & Community Resilience Team will dive further into the Emergency Management System in Aotearoa, including how Social Service Providers can contribute to strengthening system-wide resilience.

Maggie Chum

Senior Advisor – Social & Community Resilience, Planning & Sector Partnerships Unit

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Maggie commenced her career as a Communications Specialist in humanitarian relief and recovery, contributing to initiatives across The Philippines, Jordan, Tanzania, Nepal, the Thai-Myanmar refugee camps, and Aotearoa New Zealand. Her extensive experience engaging with communities inspired a transition into Emergency Management, with a focus on strengthening Community Resilience and enhancing Response efforts.

Dana MacDiarmid

Team Leader – Social & Community Resilience, Planning & Sector Partnerships Unit

Dana is an experienced leader in emergency management and disaster risk reduction, with extensive experience advising senior leaders, including the Minister for Emergency Management. Her diverse background includes disaster preparedness in the Pacific, capacity building in Timor-Leste, and chairing the Volunteer Service Abroad Council, showcasing leadership in emergency welfare, governance and community resilience.
