Te Pai Ora SSPA has begun an ambitious, strategic, research programme to build a robust, reliable evidence base on the social sector workforce. At the heart of this work is the development of an informative, multi-year workforce survey. The data collected will be used to help with future planning, funding and policy decisions.

The community social services sector in Aotearoa New Zealand has never had a clear, trusted picture of our workforce. We don’t have the data we need to understand who makes up our workforce, where they are located, who employs them, their roles, employment conditions and the challenges they face. This works aims to change that.

The research programme is being developed in collaboration with iwi, sector partners and major employers throughout Aotearoa. We have convened a steering group to oversee and advise our programme. This mahi is part of our commitment to building sector workforce capability.

As a first step in developing our workforce survey, we need to answer the question: how do we define the social services workforce? With the assistance of our steering group we have drafted a proposed definition and are keen to hear your thoughts. You can read the definition and give your feedback at the links below.
