A Commitment to Move from Darkness to Light
As a sector, we have a collective responsibility to take action and make changes in response to the findings from the Royal Commission. Together, we must ensure that all children and at-risk adults in care are loved and protected by a safe and nurturing care system.
Te Pai Ora SSPA is supporting and championing the social service sector’s response to the Royal Commission’s findings. Our work is guided by our Abuse in Care Advisory Group.
The Commitment
As a first step in this kaupapa, we are asking our social service community to join a collective commitment to respond to the recommendations and findings of the Inquiry.
This Commitment recognises and addresses the hurt and responsibility to survivors and requires system change that ensure the prevention of further harm – moving from Darkness to Light.
It brings us together under a shared promise to give effect to the Inquiry’s findings and recommendations. It commits us to take action and make changes.
The name of our Commitment was chosen by our advisory group and references the name survivors gave the Royal Commission’s final report: Whanaketia - Through pain and trauma, from darkness to light.
