KORONGA WHAKAHAERE – Organisational Purpose

  • Provide an effective voice for member organisations
  • Ensure effective communication and knowledge sharing between member organisations, the Executive Committee, Child, Youth and Family and Family and Community Services (MSD)
  • Promote assistance to children, young people and their families through encouraging and promoting co-operation between member organisations, Child, Youth and Family, Family and Community Services (MSD) and other government departments

NGA WHAINGA - Objectives

  1. To strengthen and further develop Social Service Providers Aotearoa as a credible national organisation
  2. To develop and maintain effective and influential working partnerships relevant to Social Service Providers Aotearoa
  3. To maintain existing funding streams and to explore new funding streams for the long term sustainability of Social Service Providers Aotearoa
  4. To continue to develop and maintain an effective and cohesive National Executive Committee
 

STRATEGIES FOR SUCCESS

1. To strengthen and further develop Social Service Providers Aotearoa as a credible national organisation

  1. To increase the profile of the organisation as a recognisable national umbrella group
  2. To expand the membership and strengthen the commitment of member agencies
  3. To maintain regular communication with members and National Executive through the National
  4. Executive Officer including regular E Mail group contact to actively engage with the membership
  5. Develop strong Regional networks and hold regular regional meetings nationwide
  6. Promote representation of Regions on National Executive
  7. Co-ordinate Best Practice Workshops and joint training opportunities
  8. Co-ordinate an annual conference for members and other interested stakeholders

2. To develop and maintain effective and influential working parternships relevant to Social Service Providers, Aotearoa

  1. Develop effective working relationships with existing and potential Maori member organizations
  2. Investigate opportunities for partnership with Te Kahui Atawhai O Te Motu
  3. Develop effective working relationship with existing and potential Pacific Island member organisations
  4. Provide an advisory service to SSPA members
  5. Develop effective working relationships with government organisations and Members of Parliament
  6. Develop effective working relationship with National Umbrella Organisations
  7. Develop effective working relationships with relevant Non Government Organisations
  8. Develop awareness of any changes to the Social Service environment and act on new opportunities
  9. Explore bulk buying opportunities for goods and services to benefit members

1. To strengthen and further develop Social Service Providers Aotearoa as a credible national organisation

  1. New Webmaster engaged and website updated regularly
  2. Newsletters and Talking Back questionnaires placed on website
  3. Increased membership that reflects the diversity of the sector
  4. Increased response from member organisations to requests for information, completion of surveys etc.
  5. Increased awareness of the work of SSPA by the SocialService Sector and Government
  6. Newsletter contributions canvassed from Government Ministers, Member Organisations and Executive Committee
  7. Newsletter published quarterly and distributed to members and key Government Department
  8. Timely and appropriate communication (usually on a monthly basis) with Member Organisations via regular Group E-mail contact
  9. Expansion of Regional Development Officer's role to cover additional regions
  10. Regional Meetings held annually (ideally a minimum of one meeting per year per region)
  11. Evaluation of effectiveness of Regional Meetings undertaken annually
  12. A minimum of six Best Practice Workshops held annually involving joint training opportunities with Child, Youth and Family and other organisations
  13. A successful Annual Conference will have been held

2. To develop and maintain effective and influential working parternships relevant to Social Service Providers, Aotearoa

  1. Develop a plan to concretize SSPA's commitment to valuing the Treaty of Waitangi
  2. Work with Pacific Island National Executive Member to enhance SSPA's working relationship with Pacific Island members
  3. Develop innovative projects in partnership with other social service and government agencies.
  4. Provide an advocacy advisory service in response to queries raised by SSPA members
  5. Write submissions and position papers on issues of concern to the membership
  6. The Strategic alignment entered into with CYFS will be reviewed annually
  7. SSPA's regional voice will be represented to Government via a two way communication channel
  8. At least one strategic planning meeting will be held annually with Child, Youth and Family Regional
  9. Directors and Family and Community Service (MSD) Regional Managers
  10. Quarterly meetings will be held between Executive
  11. Committee and key staff in relevant Government and Non Government organisations
  12. SSPA will be represented at Government CEO forums and other relevant consultation meetings
  13. A minimum of two Executive Committee Meetings will have been attended by different Members of Parliament
  14. A minimum of two Executive Committee Meetings will have been attended by relevant Government and/or Non Government organisations
  15. At least one joint project will be undertaken with Child, Youth and Family and/or Community and Family Services (MSD)
  16. National Executive will have initiated an annual meeting between NZCCSS, NZFVWO, NZCOSS, Te Kahui Atawhai O Te Motu and other relevant National Organisations

3. To explore new funding streams for the long term sustainability of Social Service Providers Aotearoa

  1. Ensure CYFS accountability and contractual obligations are met in a timely fashion
  2. Funding options will have been discussed with Philanthropic Trusts as required
  3. Explore opportunities to assist Regions to raise funds in their own area for training purpose

4. To continue to develop and maintain an effective and cohesive National Executive Committee

  1. Ensure a succession plan for National Executive is in place
  2. Executive Members attend all scheduled meetings

OUTCOMES

1. To strengthen and further develop Social Service Providers Aotearoa as a credible national organisation

  1. Social Service Providers Aotearoa will be a recognisable national voice for Member Organisations and Government Departments
  2. Membership recruitment drive will target providers with CYFS and/or FACS contracts who are not currently members
  3. Increase membership to 300 providers
  4. Social Service Providers Aotearoa will be accessible to members, have an increased public profile and be represented in a professional manner
  5. Social Service Providers Aotearoa will be strongly represented and identified in the Regions
  6. Executive Committee will be kept informed of Member Agency issues and regional feedback
  7. Regional views will be considered by the Executive Committee and Government policy makers
  8. Regional members will have received regular feedback and support in response to identified needs
  9. Regional networks will be strengthened by the employment of four Regional Development Officers to be located in Auckland, Christchurch and 2 other locations to be decided
  10. SSPA will be responsive to Best Practice needs in regions and coordinate Best Practice Seminars in response to identified need
  11. SSPA will work to address the needs of its Maori members as well as working to increase Bi-Cultural practice knowledge for all

2. To develop and maintain effective and influential working parternships relevant to Social Service Providers, Aotearoa

  1. A framework will be developed to enhance the relationship with existing and potential Maori providers (Mere Ruru and Leainne Nathan)
  2. A framework will be developed to enhance the relationship with existing and potential Pacific Island providers (To'alepai Thomsen Inder)
  3. SSPA will have supported and advocated on behalf of Members in response to identified need
  4. SSPA will have explored the possibility of developing further innovative regional projects within local communities
  5. Collaborative partnership between Government and Social Service Sector will have been strengthened via a two way communication channel
  6. Government awareness of Social Service Providers Aotearoa will increase as a consequence of forming a closer collaborative partnership
  7. The Executive Committee will be well informed on current political issues relevant to the Social Services sector
  8. A well positioned and resourced Executive Committee will be responsive to new opportunities as they arise
  9. Bulk Buying opportunities will have been discussed with key Government staff and other interested national umbrella groups

3. To explore new funding streams for the long term sustainability of Social Service Providers Aotearoa

  1. Funding base of Social Service Providers Aotearoa will have been maintained
  2. Funding applications will have been made to funding bodies as required
  3. SSPA's Funding needs will have been discussed with FACS ( to reflect mix of membership's contracts)
  4. SSPA will have assisted members to apply to regional funding bodies seeking financial assistance for training purposes

4. To continue to develop and maintain an effective and cohesive National Executive Committee

  1. Regional representation on National Executive will be encouraged
  2. Executive Members will adhere to the Code of Conduct
  3. A 'News Flash' will be sent to members and other interested parties at the conclusion of each National Executive Meeting
  4. Develop Position papers to inform future strategic direction
